OWL and Marshall Update Going Into The Final Week Of Season
(Photo Credit : Petrus Engelbrecht) It was a great weekend in the Ontario Women’s League (OWL) and Marshall Leagues. Clubs are fighting for position in the standings as the regular season ends this upcoming weekend. With the season’s clock ticking away, teams are making their final pushes to secure themselves a spot for the playoffs.
The OWL has been very exciting in the past couple weeks. Niagara has taken top spot in the West conference this weekend with a 47-5 win over the Toronto Scottish. They have now leap frogged over the Guelph Redcoats who held this position for a majority of the season but dropped their last two fixtures. The Aurora Barbarians beat Waterloo County 72-12 bringing their record to 6-3 and securing the second spot in the East Conference. The Toronto Saracens still have a dominant hold on the First Division. They are 9-0 with 575 points scored in nine games, while only conceding 92 points in the process. They look like the team to beat going into the playoffs.

In the Marshall Premiership, The Brantford Harlequins kept adding to their lead atop the West Premiership with a 37 – 26 victory over the Stoney Creek Camels. Lindsay beat Peterborough 26-12 to keep hold of the second spot in the East Premiership. The Markham Irish kept up their winning ways by beating the Crusaders 53-19, securing a spot directly below the Harlequins, who still look like the team to beat going into the final stretch of the Marshall playoffs.
In the Marshall Championship. Waterloo County has made a final push to be the top team with one game left to go against the Burlington Centaurs. Waterloo County with a win could match the record of the Burlington Centaurs and end their season long lead of the Marshall championship. With a 40-28 win this weekend over rival Oshawa Vikings, the Ajax Wanderers bolstered their lead in the East Championship and improved their record to 5-4. Burlington, Waterloo, London St George’s and Ajax are looking like the top teams going into the final week of the season as Aurora, Barrie, Oshawa and Toronto Nomads round out the bottom half of the division.
