Rugby Ontario Establishes U16 Age Grade Provincial Program in Southwest Ontario

(LONDON, ON) - Rugby Ontario is pleased to announce the establishment of Ontario Southwest Under-16 Men's and Women's programs for the 2018 summer competition season. For full details on the Ontario Junior Blues regional age-grade program, see our release from earlier this week.
The goal of these programs is to provide support for our elite rugby athletes in the Southwestern Ontario Region.
"The commitment level that our Southwest Ontario athletes have to make to be part of the Ontario Junior Blues program is massive," stated Rugby Ontario's High Performance Manager Paul Connelly. "By establishing a Rugby Ontario development program out of the London Region, our hope is to increase the elite athlete talent pool and thus support the development of rugby at the local clubs. Our hope is also that it establishes a pathway for our Southwest athletes to represent their province and country as both programs will be fully integrated with all other Rugby Ontario Age Grade programs."
Leading the U16 Women's program will be Head Coach Kalin Walters with assistant coaches Shannan Disher (Walters) and Deeanna Kirwin.
Leading the U16 Men's program for the 2018 season will be Spencer Eagleson and Mark Sutherland.
Rugby Ontario would also like to thank Ryan Kimmerly (Head Coach at Medway S.S.), Tom Dolozel (Canada and UWO Head Coach), Chris Pilon and John Weller (UWO Women's Head Coach, London St. George's Vice President) who have been outstanding consultants in helping to get this program off the ground.
Pre-season athlete identification camps will be held at MEDWAY SECONDARY SCHOOL on March 7th, March 21st and April 4th from 5 pm until 8 pm.

Cost for the three sessions will be $25 with each athlete to receive a Rugby Ontario T-Shirt.
ABOUT THE ONTARIO BLUES
The Ontario Blues program is the high performance representative program for male and female rugby players in Ontario. Rugby Ontario is represented at the provincial level by the Ontario Blues. The program includes representative teams from Under-15 to Senior in both Women’s and Men’s Fifteens and Under-18 Men's and Women's Sevens. Specifically, the program is designed to develop and showcase rugby players for Canadian representative national teams.
