(OAKVILLE, ON) – Some of the best athletes from Rugby Ontario’s Marshall Premiership league will be taking the field on Thursday, June 22 in Oakville, Ontario. The East will take on the West in an All-Star format at Crusaders Rugby Club. Kick-off for this All-Star match is 7:15PM Eastern.
The 2017 Marshall Premiership All-Star Game is an opportunity for some of the top players in the league to come together to put the league's talent on display - while creating a friendly rivalry and allowing players to play alongside some of their weekend rivals. With the support of Rugby Canada and Rugby Ontario, the All-Star game promises to be an exciting outlet for the top league in the province to showcase talent.
There will be a special appearance at Crusader Park, as the Webb Ellis Cup will be on display. The Webb Ellis Cup is the trophy awarded to the Rugby World Cup Champions. It will be on display, as part of its North American tour, which will include a stop at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton on June 24 for the Rugby World Cup Qualifying match between Canada and the United States of America. The trophy will be on display and available for pictures from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.
The East roster includes representatives from the Toronto Scottish, Markham Irish, Lindsay RFC and Aurora Barbarians. Some of the key names on the East side include Alex Colborne (Toronto Scottish) – who suited up for the Ontario Blues against Glendale in May, as well as John Sheridan (Markham Irish) – who has also represented the Blues on multiple occasions. The East side will be coached by the Toronto Scottish’s Paul Hahn.
The West roster includes representatives from the Brantford Harlequins, Stoney Creek Camels, Balmy Beach RFC and Crusaders. The team is loaded with talent from the defending McCormick Cup champion-side Harlequins, including Rory Mcdonell, who has recently become a common choice at #15 for the Blues and has had time with the Canada A team. The West side will be coached by Balmy Beach’s Haydn Gage.
