Further to the announcement of the Rugby Ontario partnership with Canadian Tire Jumpstart (see release below), and with the rugby season now underway, now is a good time to share the program with the parents of junior and minor players at your club who you believe could be eligible for assistance from the Jumpstart program.

The program is designed for children from families with financial needs. Eligibility and the amount of assistance is based on a combination of family income, location and size of the family unit.

Rugby Ontario has registered every Member club with the Jumpstart program. If a family successfully applies for funding from the program, the payment is made to the member club by cheque to ensure the funding is directly applied to expenses the player incurs in playing for their club. If the family has already paid all their expenses for the season, clubs will then reimburse them when the payment is received.

Applications must be lodged by the family online with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities. They are not lodged by or through the club or Rugby Ontario.

Mar 2, 2017 - (TORONTO, ON) – Rugby Ontario is excited to announce that we have secured a partnership with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities ahead of the 2017 rugby season.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is a national charity dedicated to helping remove the financial barriers preventing kids from getting in the game. Jumpstart believes that for kids, playing sports is about more than getting active: sports equip kids for life with skills like courage, confidence and teamwork. Jumpstart assists with the costs associated with registration, equipment and/or transportation.

With this partnership, Rugby Ontario will be able to fund 250 total athletes across Ontario. This program will allow our clubs to help grow the game and give opportunity to those who would not normally be able to enjoy the benefits of our sport.

“At Rugby Ontario, we know how important sport can be for children’s development, both physically and socially,” explained Rugby Ontario Chief Executive Officer Michael Brown. “Through this partnership, we can help children participate in rugby, who otherwise would not be able to enjoy the sport. Through the funding from Jumpstart, children will experience the joys of being a member of a team, developing as an athlete and most importantly – having fun!”

Rugby Ontario Chief Executive Officer Michael Brown and Associate Vice President of Jumpstart Charities Marco Di Buono share the same mentality of utilizing sport as a tool for social change, which creates not just better athletes, but better corporate citizens.

Rugby Ontario is extremely excited about this partnership with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and look forward to working with them in the future in growing the game of rugby within the province. More details regarding this extensive partnership will be coming soon.
