Senior Provincial Leagues set to kick off this weekend

(WHITBY, ON) – Rugby Ontario’s senior provincial leagues begin this weekend. The Ontario Women’s League, Marshall Premiership and Marshall Championship will all kick off their seasons on Saturday, May 13 with some exciting matchups.

2017 Provincial League – Week 1

Ontario Women’s League

Niagara Wasps v. Toronto Scottish – 1:00pm – Niagara

Waterloo County v. Aurora Barbarians – 12:30pm – Waterloo Rugby Club

Markham Irish v. Guelph Redcoats – 1:00pm – Fletcher’s Fields

Toronto Saracens v. Yeomen Lions – 1:00pm – Fletcher’s Fields

Matchup Notes:

The defending champion Aurora Barbarians get a tough away matchup against a strong Waterloo side. The Irish and Saracens will host the Guelph Redcoats and Yeomen Lions, respectively, while the Wasps play host to the Scottish.

Marshall Premiership

Brantford Harlequins v. Stoney Creek Camels – 6:45pm - Saltfleet HS (Friday May 12, 2017)

Lindsay v. Crusaders – 3:00pm – Lindsay RFC

Aurora Barbarians v. Markham Irish – 3:00pm – Fletcher’s Fields

Toronto Scottish v. Balmy Beach – 3:00pm – Fletcher’s Fields

Matchup Notes:

Stoney Creek gets the pleasure of taking on the defending champion Harlequins in the first match of the season, while Crusaders will battle the newly dubbed Premiership side from Lindsay. The Barbs and Irish will battle on home soil, while the intense rivalry between the Scottish and Balmy Beach will write its next chapter early in the season.

Marshall Championship

Oshawa Vikings v. Toronto Nomads – 3:00pm – Thompson Park

Ajax Wanderers v. Peterborough Pagans – 3:00pm – Ajax Wanderers RFC

London St. George v. Barrie RFC – 3:00pm – London St. George Rugby Club

Waterloo County v. Brampton Beavers – 3:00pm – Waterloo Rugby Club

Matchup Notes:

The Oshawa Vikings will play host to the Nomads in the first game of the 2017 season, while the Peterborough Pagans will travel down Highway 115 to take on the Wanderers from Ajax. London St. George will have something to prove, as they narrowly missed promotion to the Premiership. Their first matchup comes against a strong Barrie side, which recently was promoted from the TRU after winning the Intermediate Cup in 2016.
